Annual Meeting Press Association —Copyright Wellington, Today. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held today. At the outset the committee considered developments of the result of representations made to the English Union in regard to replacement of injured players. In welcoming the delegates, the president, Mr. Pownall (Wanganui) mentioned that he had been able to pay personal visits to the majority of unions. He regretted that circumstances prevented his visiting North Auckland and the East Coast.
OBJECTION TO INCOME TAX Strong exception to Rugby Unions being called upon to pay income tax was taken at the annual meeting. Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the Management Committee, explained that representations had been made to the Finance Minister, who promised to take the matter up with the Department*. If they could not get satisfaction from this course, an endeavour should be made by all unions to bring thy matter before their members of Parliament with a view to an amendment of the Act to provide exemption. The opinion was expressed that the time was inopportune for the sending of a New Zealand representative team on a tour of New Zealand, much as it would be desirable from an educational point of view,
