COLOUR FILMS

Discovery by Wellington Man

Some of the world's greatest discoveric' have been made more or less by accident. This has attain been exemplified by the Tru Color Film discovery, which seems likely to revolutionise the colour film industry. It was discovered partly by accident by a Wellington man, Mr. R. A. Townsend. Ivlr. Townsend not only discovered that true material colours lie dormant upon even ordinary black and' white film, but what is more discovered a simple process by which all the rolours were given their equal value—as the colours appear to the eye in nature so they appear i when projected through a Tru Colour film on the camera screen. The interested audience that was fortunate enough to have a private screen:ng yesterday agreed that the film did ail that was claimed for it, and more. The pictures, which comprised a series of New Zealand news taken mostly by amateurs, were remarkably clear in detail, ihe various colours all being distinct and not running into each other. Whether seascapes, mountain views, sunsets, racing scenes with the colours of the horses and of the jockeys all clearly defined, or of bathing beauties in their muti-coloured costumes the effect was delightfully pleasing and vastly different to previous attempts at colour cinematography. That it is equally applicable to the talking film as to the silent was also demonstrated. A striking feature was the material effect given to flesh tints which are so lacking in black and white films.

Mr. 1,. Brook gave an interesting resume of the discovery. Owing to trouble with the heating plant during yesterday afternoon's matinee "True Colours" .was affected by smoke getting in to the film, which was made to appear hazy. This trouble has been rectified.
