Press Association—Copyright London, May 6. Several Davis Cup matches were played in the European zone to-day. Germany defeated Egypt at Wiesbaden. In the doubles Vongramm C. Jaenecke (Germany) beat Shukri Wahid (Egypt), 4—S, 6—4, B—6,8 —6, G—4. Germany will now meet the winner of the match between Holland and Poland. In the match between Holland and Poland at The Hague Timmer and Diemerkool (Holland) beat Tloczynski and Hebda (Poland), 3—G, 6—l, 6—2, 6—3 in the doubles. Italy defeated Jugo-Slavia at Florence. In the singles Morpurgo (Italy) beat Kukuljecic (Jugo-Slavia), 7—5, 6—4, 6—3, and Destefani (Italy) beat Pallada (Jugoslavia), 6—l, 6—2, 6—2. Italy will now meet the winner of the Belgium-Austria match. Japan defeated Hungary at Budapest and will now meet the winner of the match between Ireland and Denmark. In the doubles Jirosatoh Nunoi (Japan) beat Gabrowitz Zichy (Hungary), 6—o, 6-1, 6-2. In the match between Austria and Belgium Artens (Austria) beat De Borman (Belgium), 4—6, 6—2, 6—4, 7—5 in the first singles. AUSTRALIANS WIN DOUBLES Press Association —Cnpvright London, May 6. Finals at the Bournemouth tennis championships resulted: — Men’s doubles: Crawford and Turnbull (Australia) beat McGrath and Quist (Australia), 6—l, 6-8, 4-6, 13—11, 6-3. Men’s singles: Perry (holder) beat Austin, 2—6. 7—5, 7—5. 6—2. Ladies’ singles: Miss Round beat Miss Jacobs, 3—6, 6—2, 6 —3. The United States won their first round Davis Cup match in the North American zone when Lott and Van Ryn defeated Eduardo Mestre and Alfonso Unda, 6—o, 6—l, 7—5.
