WAIKATO COAL DISPUTE

Nothing Arranged Yet

RENOWN COMPANY'S OFFER

Press Association —Copyright

Auckland. April 23.—A development in the Waikato coal dispute at the week-end was an offer by Renown Collieries Ltd. to withdraw its notice to the men and proposing a postponement of the 20 per cent, cut in their wages provided a meeting was called of the five companies concerned and that the Taupiri and Glen Afton companies reverted to selling at the prices previously in force. 'Mr. W. D. Holgate, president of the Dominion Coalmine Owners' Association, said nothing was arranged yet.

Advice has been received at Greymouth, says a message from there, that the National Council of the United Mine Workers of New Zealand at a meeting in Christchurch yesterday resolved that in the event of a satisfactory settlement of the dispute at the Renown colliery, in the Waikato district, not being obtained through the present Auckland negotiations, the matter will immediately be taken up by the Miners' National Council with the Coal Owners' Association, and that, failing a settlement then being arranged, the Miners' Council will recommend a national stoppage in support of the Northern Miners' Union.
