Magistrate's Comment ' CASE AT STRATFORD COURT Dissatisfaction with the evidence of a judgment debtor, R. G. M»mby fTarata), who appeared at the Stratford Court to-day on a judgment summons, was expressed by the magistrate' Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M. . W.' McCoard. storekeeper, of Tarata. claimed the sum of £24 19s 7d from defendant.
Mr. S. Macallister. who appeared fn* plaintiff., recalled that the case had been adjourned from the last sitting of the court in order to allow evidence of rebuttal to be called. Plaintiff gave evidence to the effect that defendant h«d said that he would not -pay his creditors.
A brother of plaintiff cave evidence that he bad seen defendant with twm large rails of notes amounting almost to £2OO. In the witness box defendant fid he had monev to bnv cattle for his father, who was a cattle dealer. Further evidence was given by defendant. The magistrate said he wns satisf'M that there was some eonn->nnce between defendant and his father .in view of the fact that he was a sharemilker on one of bis father's farms and handled a considerable amount, of bis father's money. If it was neressn-v defendant would have to call on his father for assistance. An order was made for navment of £4 monthly, in default 2t dnvs* Imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended to enable payment, the. first of which was ordered to be made on May 20. ■ ; '
