Nelson, April 20. Now caves with numerous nion bones were found oy Mr. G. Fawcett, of Nelson, while In 1 was prospecting in the Mount Vrihuv area.

Mr. Fawcett found the skeletons of seven adult birds and two chickens and several pieces of shell. He has not explored the caves thoroughly but anticipates there are man:-- more bones. On the floor of the caves he could define the imprints of a foot. Several people have declared they have never seen bones as large as some Mr. Fawcett has in his possession. One indicates a height of 7ft. On the western side of Mount Arthur on tablelands there is a miocene limesi- ..■ forms, ti-jn between 3000 and 4000 feet alfitir"'". It is in this at about 3500 fei ' that VFr. Frvwcett has discovered the caves, some of which are large, being quarto!' of a mile in depth and big enough in places to have large house built in them. Five of the ten caves go right through spurs in the hills, daylight at both entrances being seen from inside. In many parts of the caves debris has fallen from the top and covered some of the moa bones. Mr. Fawcett attributes this to the effect of the 1929 earthquake.
