SEARCH FOR REVOLVER In an endeavour *.o find the revolver which was used by the man who wounded Mr. J. P. Bates, the garage proprietor who was shot at Mercer on Friday night, Detective-Sergeant Doyle and Detectives Wilson and Mahood left Auckland by car early on Wednesday morning. It is believed that the assailant threw away his weapon before he abandoned the motorcar he was using just north of the traffic bridge at Ngaruawahia. Four constables were also sent from Auckland to Mercer by train on Wednesday morning. Armed with slashers and wearing old clothes, these men will assist the detectives in searching both sides of the road and the riverbank between Mercer and Ngaruawahia.
