RADNOR ROAD NOTES

First Anniversary

Splendid weather prevailed for the first anniversary of the Radnor Road tennis club which was held under ideal conditions. A large number of members and friends gathered at the courts and a captain's team and a secretary's team contested at friendly game. The secretary's team won by 5 sets, 38 games, to 2 sets, 27 games. During the afternoon the finals in the ladies' and men's ladder matches were played, the victors proving to he Miss B. Hunt, who heat Mrs. A. R. Askew G—3. A. W. Mapp. who heat H. Viekers 6—l. The trophies were presented at the afternoon tea interval by the president, Mr. C. Davis. The club's mascot for the day, a large marrow in the form of a duck, was contested for by the visitors, being won by Mrs. J. G. Viekers and Mr. S. Davis.

A "bring and buy" stall under the care of Mesdames S. Reid and W. Viekers was well patronised. A decorated birthdav cake was made for the occasion by Mrs. C. Davis. A weightguessing competition was won by Mr. A. W. Mapp, who estimated 141 b 407„ the actual weight being 141 b 6oz. Those pr.sent included Mr. M. Davis (patron) Mrs. J. G. Viekers, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, Mr. and Mrs. O'Neill and" Mr. S. Davis. In tbo evening a euchre and dance party was held, the capacity of the school being taxed to the utmost. Prize-winners in the euchre contest were Mrs. V. Carroll and Mr. .T. B. Hunt Miss T. Viekers and Mr. R. Yandle won the Monte Carlo waltz. Music was played by Messrs. D. Anderson and J. -T. Read. Personal Mrs. Kaspar is staying at New Plymouth. , Mrs. S. Reid has returned from nor holiday at Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Ilawes New Plymouth, were the guests of Mrs. Askew last week. Mr. and Mrs. and Miss PcntelOW, New Plymouth, who were the quests of Mrs. Rookes have returned home. Mr S. Davis'and Miss Beryl Davis, who were the guests of Mrs. M. Davis. returned to New Plymouth on TuesMrs. Mapp is visiting her father at TV Pone. It bus been decided to hold fortnightly e.uehvo parties, the manage men! Vommiliee comprising Mrs. S. i;,.n!
