Mr. and Mrs. J. Keith and Miss Dorcen Allen left by ear this morning for Dargnvillo and Auckland.
Miss Joyce Bond, of Devouport, Auckland, who has been on a visit to Mrs. J. H. Childs, has returned home.
Messrs. T. B. Strong (Director of Education), E. J. Parr senior secondary school inspector) and W. A. La Trobe (chief technical departmental officer) were visitors to Stratford today. They made an inspection of the Stratford Technical High School in connection with the accommodation problem, but no defninite announcement was made.
At the close of yesterday afternoon's bowling on the Avon green Mr. A. Clark, who is leaving for Marton, was the recipient of a presentation from the bowlers of a handsome leather bowling bag. The president, Mr. 11. 171. Belts, in making the presentation, spoke of the good qualities of Mr. Clark and congratulated him upon his success as a bowler. He expressed the regret at losing such a valuable member. Mr. Clark, in reply, thanked the club members for the presentation and spoke feelingly at leaving the Avon Club, where Ik; had had such an enjoyable time during his residence in Stratford. Other members also spoke of the good fellowship of Mr. Clark.
Lieutenant-Commander (N.) 11. F. Nicholls, R.N., will arrive at Wellington by the Ruahine on May 3 to join the New Zealand Division of the Roval Navv. He joined Osborne College in May, 1514, and H.M.S. Vanguard as midshipman at Scapa Flow in May, 1917. From September, 1922, to April ,1921, he served as lieutenant in H.M.S. Stuart, hi the Mediterranean, and at the end of 1924 he qualified in navigation. For five months in 1925 he served as assistant navigator in H.M.S. Royal Oak in the Atlantic Fleet. For 18 months from January, 1926, he was navigator in H.M.S. Bluebell in China, and then he qualified in the first-class ship navigation course. During 1929 he was assistant navigator to H.M.S. Hood (Atlantic Fleet), and assistant navigator to H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth (Mediterranean Fleet). Subsequently he served on the staff of the navigation school, and from August, to February, 1933, he served as navigator and first lieu-tenant-commander of H.M.S. Danae. Lieutenant -Commander Nicholls, who is unmarried, is interested in shoot- :,,;.■. fishing, law'i tennis, golf and hockey.
