RAILWAY PASSENGERS

Noticeable Increase EASTER PASSENGERS FROM WELLINGTON Wellington, April 18.—There was a noticeable increase in the number of railway passengers carried to and from Wellington during the Easter holidays this year. Noticeable features of the traffic were the large number of passengers who made only short trips, trains travelling between Wellington and Palmerston North and intermediate stations being well filled, and there was heavy traffic on the Wairarapa line, on which many racegoers were carried to and from Tauherenikau.

Traffic on the inter-island ferry steamers was fairly heavy.

Travel by road again proved popular, both private and commercial vehicles carrying large numbers of holidaymakers. Service-car companies report the best business for about four years.
