EARLY MORNING FIRE

Stratford Brigade Summoned OLD SHED DESTROYED Fanned by a strong wind a fire destroyed an old wooden shed at 2.30 a.m. today at the rear of a residence in Ariel Street occupied by Mr and Mrs John Mail and family and owned by Mr. 11. B. Crossan, Inglewood. The structure was totally destroyed, together with an adjoining outhouse. At one time during the progress of the outbreak the residence was threatened with destruction, but the arrival the fire brigade under Deputy Superintendent Brocklebank prevented the spread of the flames. A portion of the rear of the house actually caught alight and the scullery was damaged by fire and water. At 2.20 a.m. Mr and Mrs Mail were awakened by the sound of crackling flames, and Mr. Mail discovered the outbreak. He sent one of his? sons to a neighbour's place to communicate by telephone with the fire brigade, which was summoned. The occupant of the bouse had no insurance on the contents of the destroyed structures ov the house, and the insurance of the owner over the property is unknown. At 1.50 a.m. Charles Faulkner, a baker who boards at the house, rose and left for the place of his employment. He did not see any signs of a fire and did not smell anything burning.
