Ratepayers' Association A mooting of the Stratford Ratepayers' Association was held tasi evening. Matters of interest, to mem beiv. of tLe association and the ratepayers generally were discussed. It is understood thai the meeting was held in cojinection with the forthcoming luauieipal elections. Successful Stratford Team At the Pahnerston North Easter bowling tournament which continued for four days, P. SkoglUiid's (Strafford) team won every game they played and emerged the winners. The team comprised Curtis, G. T. Skoglund, P. Skoglund, senr., P. Skoglund, junr. (s.), and with great consistency of play went through the tournament without a loss. Numerous teams from all parts of the North island competed at the tourney.

Toko Seven-a-side Football A seven-a-side football tournament will be held at Toko tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon. The following players will represent the Stratford Football Club: Wellington, Watson, Butcher, Cresswell, Schwieters, Faulkner, Fastier, Richards, Tubby, juries, Aitken, Young, Harper, Demp- _^ k ,. Dickson, Berg, Boyd, Hartigan. Curd's bus leaves Stratford Hotel comer at 12 o'clock sharp.

Thursday Hockey Teams Hockey competition matches will commence to-morrow (Thursday). The following players will represent Stratford seniors against Waitara at Stratford: Sharrock, Kendrick, Young, S. Jury, Curric, Hale, Wjalker, Adam, James, Mclnnes, Clements. Stratford juniors against Waitara juniors at Waitara (cars leave P.O. at 1.45 p.m.): Skuse, Cutfield, Fitzgerald, Gaze, C. Jury, Claridge, Cook, Bone, Boyle, Thomson, Thompson.

Cricket Club Dance An enjoyable dance was held at Kahouri bridge on Faster Monday night in aid of the local cricket club. Tlie dance was a great success, the hall being comfortably filled. The noveltv dances were awarded as follows- Mr. and Mrs. Hon Macßae, Monte Carlo; Mr. B. Waite and Miss H. Reeder, spot waltz. A splendid supper was provided by a committee ul local ladies. Music was supplied by Waite's Adelphi Dance Band. Mr. R. Goodwin was an efficient M.C. The ladies' prize for the Monte Carlo was donated by Mrs. Geo. Hunter.

Unemployed Protest Alleged discrimination in the allocation of funds for unemployed relief workers' wages as between the cities and country towns will be the subject of a meeting of protest to be held at Hawera on Wednesday next. The Stratford Unemployment Committee, in common with other similar committees in the province, has received an invitation to attend the meeting, which has been called primarily for the purpose of making a combined protest against- the alleged discrimination shown by the Unemployment Board in making allocations.

Hand-knitted Garments A splendid display of hand-knitted woollen garments at the annual meeting of the Stratford branch of the Women's Division, N.Z.F.U., h"ld yesterday afternoon provided evidence of the industry of members and n to assist those in distress. The garments, of which there was a pleasing and colourful variety, will be distributed amongst distressed farmers' families and during the winter months will be practically a godsend to those who have not the wherewithal to purchase warm, suitable clothing. Mew bors of the branch intend to continue with their worthy efforts.

Resignation of Vicar After four years as vicar of the Stratford parish of the Church of England Canon G. T. Beale has tendered his resignation and it has been accepted by the bishop. As stated m last night's Post Canon Beale made the announcement from the pulpit at the evening service at Holy Trinity CJllirch on Sunday last, and it is bis intention to return to England. Speaking to the, Post 10-day Canon Beaksaid that after 15 years in New Zealand and bis work in Stratford entailing a, large amount of organisation work be felt the need of some relaxation and be decided to return to the Mother Country, where he intended to stay with bis people for a time an d subsequently take up *ome term of Church work. The resignation o Canon Beale takes effect from the end of July.

Phone Line on Mountain An etlicient telephone connection between the Maunganui Hut on Mt Egmont and the Stratford Mountain House was brought into operation during Easter. Members of the Stratford Mountain Club, who are responsible for the erection of the hue and installation of the telephone have persevered with the arduous work for some time and the completion of the work is regarded with every satisfaction. The scheme for the erection of the line was not concluded without a large amount of enterprise—and, of course, hard manual work. The lack of such a facility has been urgently felt on numerous occasions, especially when mountain accidents have occurred, so that the completion of the line is a meritorous effort, and one that has resulted in providing the possible means of saving life and limb.
