Miss K Stevenson, failed to attend Hip final meeting of the hoard prior to the elections. This created an impasse and the transaction Of all business 'including the appointment of a new'matron, senior and junior sisters arid a staff nurse, and the payment ol tradesmen's accounts., was held up, presumably until the meeting of the new board on May 9. Tlio full complement of the boruM is nine, but -two extraordinary vacancies exist. Five members constitute a quorum under the Act, and only four were present last evening. When the hour of 7.30 p.m. arrived the chairman. Colonel Jowsey, said the board would be unable to do its business. Mr. F. Robertson: Those members who have absented themselves have evidently lapsed into a state of somnambulism. . The Chairman: This is particularly unfortunate, because the payment of all accounts is held up until the new board meets. Mr. Robertson: I wonder ii those people are aware of the seriousness of the position. Mr A. E. Johnson said it was the duty of every member to attend the final meeting. What these people had treated as a joke meant, the holding up of sustenance payments. He had been told in the street that there would be no quorum. Mr. Robertson said the chairman had carried out his duties ably. During an informal discussion it was staled that 2-1 applications had been received for the position of matron. The chairman said his request to the Hospital Department for copies n'' statements made by members oj the staff during the recent inquiry by Dr. Shore had been refused. Concluding the informal meeting, the chairman save a brief report on the work of the hoard during the past term, and thanked the members present for their assistance.
