MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

(To the Editor) Sir, —A correspondent in your paper yesterday, and by the way, he need not be afraid of disclosing his identity, because there will be no Hitler reprisals, says by inference that I ask for a blind following of councillors. I do not expect anything of the kind, and during my 12£ years’ experience never got it and never asked for it. In addition, I was never guilty of cross-examining a fellowcouncillor. What I said to the deputation was that I would expect a pretty free hand, not as your correspondent twists it, demand a free hand, cn one particular matter —reduction of administration costs —and that of course is contingent on the wish of the burgesses; but if they back me on polling day, I will naturally expect councillors to support that policy or clearly express their opposition before going to the poll.— I am, etc.,

j. w. mcmillan, Stratford, 12/4/33.
