Young Motor Cyclist Killed INQUEST INTO REX RILEY'S DEATH An inquest into the death of Melville Willis Rex Riley was opened before the district coroner, Mr. W. L. Kennedy, at the Stratford courthouse this afternoon. Riley died as a result of injuries received when his motor-cycle collided with a car driven by Mr. P. O'Reilly, near Ngaere, early in January last. Stephen Marshall Riley, labourer, and father "of the deceased, who resides at 20 Erin Street, Ilawera, said th.it Melville Willis Rex Riley was his son. Deceased was 19 years of age and would have been 20 on March 6. Deceased had been born at Nelson and was a .single man. On January 11 last he had recognised at the morgue the body of his son. Witness last saw his son alive between 1.30 a!m. and 2 a.m. on that date. Witness knew that his son had died as the result of the collision between a motor-car and the cycle he was riding. Deceased had been riding motor-cycles for three or four years. His sight and hearing were good, and his health was perfect. The depositions of the driver of the car, Patrick Leo O'Reilley, given to the police previously, were read. The depositions of Mary O'Reilly, who was a passenger in the car, were also read. Witness was the mother of the driver of the car. The depositions of Constable Hargreaves were read. Details of the various marks on the road at the sire of the accident and the positions of the vehicles involved were given.
