A report to the United States Commerce Department from the consul at Hamburg indicates that Germany will probably soon import up to 20,. 000,000 bushels of American maize. The means of. financing is not revealed. There is a possibility that the Reconstruction Finance Corporation will handle it, although some con. sider Germany's financial situation is such that cash may be paid. The reason for the purchase is the low price of American grain, which makes competition with Argentina possible.

The body of Roy Golclwater, a victim of the boating fatality on October 30, was found floating in the upper reaches of the Auckland Harbour on Sunday. Goldwater, aged 25, and Christopher King, aged 58, left the city last week for a day's fishing in the upper harbour. Their boat was found stranded near Northcote, bottom upwards, Goldwater was a good swimmer but it is believed King could not swim.
