KINGSFORD SMITH
PROPOSED FLIGHT FROM AUSTRALIA Mr. McWilliams, who was one cl the crew of four when Sir Chas Kingsford Smith first flew the Tasman, is in Hawera at present, and intends at an early date to inspect the property of Messrs. Quin Broth, ers at Eltham, with a view to ascertaining its suitability as a bast ground, for Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, after his proposed Australian New Zealand flight. Owing to the fact that the South, crn Cross requires a large area to land on, New Plymouth is consider ed the only suitable ground available for;/the landing place from Australia. If/ Mr, McWilliams is satisfied that Messrs. Quin Bros.’ property would lie suited, to the conditions required by the plane, it is very likely that pending Messrs. Quin Bros.’ permission to use the property, Sir Charles will make Eltham a headquarters for passenger flights. The suggestion is as yet only in the air, but infor. ma-tion may be more definite after Mr. McWilliams has carried (cat his inspection of the ground.
