At a meeting of the Farmers' Union held on Tuesday evening, a vote of condolence was passed to Mr. and Mrs 11. Thrash and son in their recent sad bereavement.
j A debate was then held, the subject ; being "Does Crcpping Pay." I Mr. A. T. Sulzberger - , associated | with Messrs. H. Shrimpton, A. D | Johnson and F. Mr. Ricketts and his j colleagues spoke first. They presentI ed a strong case and when finished it i looked as if the cropping side would j have a hopeless task to hold their cwn. I Mr. Sulzberger and his colleagues re- ! plied and after proving their case a j live minute reply was allowed on both if.ides. Elventually a vote was taken | and the cropping side won by a large ■ majority. ! Both Mr. Sulzberger and Mr. Rickl.ctts complimented the speakers icn | their initial attempts. This debate is i the first of a series and it is hoped jto interest the young men and farmerg in these debates. Another will be I held in August. Mr. and Mrs. Len Sulzberger have I returned to their home after spending ! their honeymoon in the Waikato and j Auckland. i
Mr. Tj. G. Piper, Wellington, and Mrs. Ken Mills, Auckland, are on holiday and are staying with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Piper. The ensilage and .hay conuretitiona wil be held on Monday .July* 25, and ■it is hoped to see a large muster of farmers present. The annual Farmers’ Union dance will be hold at the end of the month when the presentation of prizes takes place.
