LEAGUE OF NATIONS HAS UNEASY FEELING
Japanese Not Carrying Out Promised Agreement CHINA MAY BE FORCED TO SEEK SOVIET HELP
Press Association. —Copyright. Reed. 8.30 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. THE Daily Mail’s correspondent at Geneva says there is uneasiness in League circles over the Sino-Japanese situation, especially as Japan- does not appear to be carrying out her promised Manchurian evacuation. On the contrary, reports have been received that Japanese troops are being reinforced. The League officials fear that China may be driven to an alliance with the Soviet Government, which already has made overtures to the Nanking Government.
(Reed. 10.30 a.m.) ! '•' SHANGHAI, Thursday; Just when the prospects were appearing brighter of settling the Manchurian question, the Japanese military precipitated a further crisis this' afternoon, when 12 military bombing planes launched an air raid on Chinchow, dropping high explosives. Reports declare that the attack was carefully planned and executed with the full sanction of the Japanese military officials at Mukden, who declare that disciplinary action was necessary. Driven to desperation by the demands of the Chinese public for retaliation, Marshal Chang Hsuehliang is believed to be preparing to forcibly oppose the Japanese, and has ordered the Manchurian forces to concentrate at Chinshow.
