RANDWICK CARNIVAL PHAR LAP'S RECORD SYDNEY, Wednesday. The weather was ideal and the track excellent for the third day of the Australian Jockey Club's spring carnival at Randwick. The attendance was good. Phar Lap gave a splendid galloping exhibition in the Craven Plate, winning on the bit and breaking his own Australian record for the distance. The New Zealander Movie Star attempted to steal a race in the Members' Handicap. Movie Star cleared out soon after the barrier rose but weakened in the final tussle. The evergreen First Acre scored a minor position in the Sydney Handicap, due to a stout finishing effort. Results are:—• Hurdle Handicap, of £400; 2 miles and 3 fur.—Gadray, 10.11 (McCurley) 1; Banner Boy, 9.8 (Cullum), 2; Golden Tunic, 9.0 (Ferguson), 3. Eight started. Gadray was favourite. Six furlongs from home Gadray had charge and withstood a desperate challenge by the former New Zealander Banner Boy, in the straight, to gain the verdict by a head. Time, 4min 21Jsec.
