RUN FOR THEIR MONEY

STOLEN CAR PURSUED A "joy-rider" in a stolen car at Gisborne gave his pursuers a run for their money on Saturday night before he abandoned the car and made good his escape on foot. The stolen car belonged to Mr. T. A. N. Corson, who found that it. had been taken from Lowe Street at about 11 p.m. Mr. Corson secured another car, and with a companion and Constable Strawbridge toured round the town and suburbs in the hope of locating the missing car. The party caught sight of a car in Upper Ormond Road at the moment its driver caught sight of them, and a brief chase then began, the driver of the stolen car leading his pursuers for about a mile along Ormond Road, until he saw that, he must be overhauled. He then stopped suddenly, and as the other car shot, past, turned round smartly and doubled back on his tracks. The other car was turned quickly, and resumed the pursuit. By this time, however, the quarry had secured a good lead, and turning down Wi Pere Street into Stout Street, abandoned the car at the corner of Ballanco Street before the party arrived, and being too fleet of foot for his pursuers, escaped over the bridge, The stolen car was found to be undamaged.
