WANGANUI WINS CHRISTIE CUP
PALMBRSTON N., March 21
Tenuis of a high order and indicative of the improvement in the standard of play since the formation of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association was seen in the Christie Cap match to-day, when the challengers, Wanganui, won by the narrow margin of 13 matches to 11 from Manawatu. Wangauui started well by winning all the men's singles and two of the women's singles, and appeared to have a convincing lead. Manawatu, however, fared better in the ,doubles, winning all the women's and two of the men's, and when the combined doubles were commenced the matched were nine all. Honours in the four first pairs in the combined were even, but the fifth and sixth Wanganui pairs were superior to their opponents, Wanganui eventually winning by 13 sets to 11, thereby winning the Christie Cup from Manawatu, who had won the trophy from Wairarapa three weeks previously.
