NEW POSTAL RATES

INCREASED RADIO CHARGES EXTRA PENNY A WORD. WELLINGTON, March 23. When the announcement of the increased postal and telegraphic charges was made at the end of last month there was no reference to the charges for wireless messages. An Order-iu-Oouneil has now been gazetted fixing new and slightly higher charges, to take effect from April .1 The charge for radio telegrams to or from Overseas ships not registered in New Zealand or Australia has been increased from lOd to lid a word, of which the ship received 4d as before and the land station 7d, instead of fid. Similarly, the charge to or from coastal or intercolonial ships registered in Now Zealand »r Australia has been increased from 5a to fid, the extra Id going to the land station. The charges for ships trading exclusively between Wellington and Lyttelton remains at 2h\ a word, with a minimum of Is 3d, and ships in the Government service are put on the same basis. POSTAGE ON NEWSPAPEBS REVISED RATE PROM TO-DAY Prom to-day the postage on newspapers will be at the rate of 16 ounces for one penny. This is a revision of the new scalo of chai-ges introduced on February 27, the rate for newspapers having been previously announced as one penny for up to eight ounces.
