REMAINS FOUND OF PEOPLE OF THE PLAIN
RACE DESTROYED BY JOSHUA DISCOVERY OF GREAT IMPORTANCE VALUABLE FIND NEAR JERICHO HABITS OF MYSTERIOUS RACE Press Association.—Copyright. (Reed. 9.20 a.m.). LONDON, March 14. Professor Garstang discovered near Jericho, the ancient burying place of the people destroyed by Joshua more than 3,000 years ago. Sir Charles Marston, who financed the expedition, declared the discovery is likely to be of the greatest historical importance, and will reveal the habits and customs of the mysterious race inhabiting the “Cities of the Plain” for several centuries. It. is suggested they were the degenerate descendants of the socaled hykos, or shepherd kings, who ruled Egypt for many centuries, one of whom was Pharaoh, when Joseph was a Minister at the Egyptian Court. Professor Flinders Petrie, who discovered traces of the people of the Plains in South Palestine, said it will be interesting (o see how the Garstang finds will support his reconstruction of the lives of these strange people. Necropolis, where the remains were found, has been undisturbed since the interment 3,400 years ago.
