ST. PATRICK’S COLLEGE
THE NEW BUILDING OPENED GOVERNOR-GENERAL OFFICIATES WELLINGTON, March 15. In the presence of about 4000 people Lord Bleclisloe this afternoon opened the new St. Patrick’s College at Heretaunga. There was a representative gathering present, including Archbishops O’Shea and Redwood, the Prime Minister and other Ministers, the Chief Justice and other Justices, M.S.’s, the Director of Education and heads of various other educational institutions. An apology, was received from Bishop Sprott. Father Dowling welcomed the guests and Archbishop Redwood presided, and gave a message of thanks and loyalty to Lord Bledisloe, who congratulated the Marist Brothers upon their achievement. He expressed admiration for the building and equipment.
The new school stands on several acres of ground in pleasant, tree-stu tied fields, backed by bush-clad hills. The building is a two-storey brick structure designed on the latest ideas and requirements of a secondary school, equipped and furnished on most modern and thorough lines. The cost of the building was £76,000, and the whole cost, including the land, £IOO,OOO. A chapel is still to bo erected from funds raised by old boys.
