WANGANU! TOURNEY WANGANUI, March 5. The New Zealand championship swimming meeting was advanced a further stage this evening, when 1,500 spectators watched the races at the Gonvllle baths. The weather was ideal: The outstanding performance of the evening was that of the Aucklander. Miss M. Farquhar, who won the 100 yards backstroke by defeating the title-holder, Miss N. Stratton, of Auckland, by a close margin. Results are: 220Yds. Men's Championship. —Fiftt heat: G. Bridson (Auckland), 1; J. B, Blakely (Wellington), 2; J. Enwright (Auckland), 3; time, 2min 41sec; won by a head. Second Heat: A. Raper (Auckland), 1; C. E. Claridge (Wellington) and A. T. F. Stokes (Canterbury), equal, 2; time, 2min 59 2-5 sec. D. Lindsay (Canterbury) djd not compete. Final: G. Bridson (Auckland), \ 1; A. T. Stokes (Canterbury), 2; J. Enwright (Auckland), 3. rJso started: J. Blakely (Wellington), A. Raper (Auckland). SCHOOL SWIMMING STRATFORD TEAMS WIN AT ELTHAM The teams of boys and.girls from the Stratford Primary School who competed at the Eitham School Baths yesterday secured the honours against the home representatives. In the inter-school relay events the results were:. — Girls.—Stratford (J. Hale, R. Black, S. Nowell, S. James), 1; Eitham (R. Taylor, M. Gower, Joy Campbell, Jean Campbell), 2. Won by a foot after a close struggle in the final lap. Boys.—Stratford (M. Fisher, A. Lilley, R. Ross, V. Gray), 1; Eitham (R. Harrison, R. Gov'er, J. Williams, L. Ware), 2, Won by four feet. In the visitors' race, 25 yards, for girls, R. Black won, with S. Nowell and J. Hall in the places. The result of the boys' race was: V. Gray and M. Fisher (equal), 1; A. Lnley,' 3. Diving.—Girls: S. Nowell, 1; R. Black and R. Taylor (equal), 2. Boys: V. Gray, 1; M. Fisher and R. Ross (equal), 2. The headmaster (Mr. L. J. Furrie), who'was in charge of the competitors, was pleased with their success and their conduct during the day.
