Charles Stephen York Freeman, alias Black, alias William Atkin (35,) recently-appointed secretary of the Marlborough Hotel Workers’ Union, was charged with the theft of money received on behalf of the Union. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to reformative detention for a period not exceeding 12 months. There was no previous record; of dishonesty against him. His aliases arose out of an endeavour to avoid arrest for failure to maintain his wife.
