URGENT MEASURES WANTED

MR FLETCHER MAKES DEMAND

WELLINGTON, July 30

Speaking in the House of Representatives tliis evening, Mr J. S. Fletcher said ho wanted to know to-night what urgent measures were to be taken to provide for the unemployed.

He said that it was no use saying that the Government’s proposals were, contained in the Unemployment Bill. Something had to be done at once, and he for one wanted definite information on the subject before passing the supplies for “this inefiiciout, incompetent Government. ’ ’ Mr A. M. Samuel complained of the Government’s failure to give effect to the recommendations of the Petitions Committees. Mr D. ,1 ones stated that New Zealand would bo faced with a very serious situation before long unless more effective moans were adopted to deal with unemployment.
