DEWAR SHIELD COMPETITION

The Kaponga seveu-a-side football tournament and the competition for the Dewar Shield were discussed at a meeting of the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union, held at Stratford last night. The secretary reported that no reply had keen received from the Kaponga Athletic Club, in reference to the Union's representation regarding the seveu-a-side tournament proposed to be held in Easter Saturday, in view of the Union’s decision to hold the Dewar Shield tournament on Easter Monday at New Plymouth. The secretary of the Kawaroa Park Society wrote, asking the committee to reconsider its decision to hold the Dewar Shield competition at New Plymouth each Easter Monday. It was pointed out that the Society had held its annual gala on Easter Monday for the past eighteen years, and it was not possible to hold it on Easter Saturday, or Ptny other holiday. It was decided to inform the Park Society that the committee regreted, owing to Easter being so late this year, and on account of the early visit of the English team, :t was unable to alter it s decision to hold the DewPtr Shield competition on Easter Monday, but the committee was of opinion that the competition would not be to the detriment of the Kawaroa Park function, and the committee was agreeable to facilitate permission, being given through thei Sports ground Committee to have a stall or stalls on the Sportsgronml.
