STRATFORD SEASON CLOSED. The official closing of the Stratford *Golf Club’s season took place yesterday afternoon. The mixed foursome played resulted as follows; Mr g F. Bowler and Mr E. C. A. THE SEASON’S TROPHIES. Following afternoon tea the president (Mr R. B. Anderson) presented the following trophies won during the season: Club championship, Mr R. B. Anderson; runner-up Mr G. G. Nowell. ladies’ championship, Miss V. -Sangster : runner-up Miss J. Sangster men’g junior championship, Mr T. Urwin, runner-up, Mr L. Berg; ladies’ junior championship, Miss J. Henry; runner-up Mrs Weston; captain’s trophy (handicap), Mr S. A. Southcombe. runner-up, Mr E. C. A. Gaw; Stanford Cup (best four net medal scores), Mr R. H. Burmester; May medal match, Mr R. H. Burmester (G 3); May bogie match, Mr T. Urwin (2 up). June medal, Mr G. G. Newell (66); June bogey, Mr L. J. Furrie (2 up); July medal, Mr R. H. Burmester (67); July bogey, Mr D. Jeffries (all square); August medal, Messr s R. B. Anderson and G. G. Newell tied (66); August bogey, Mr D. Jeffries (3 up); September medal, Mr G. G'. Newell (66). HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL. Addressing those present the president thanked all who had assisted to make tlie season the most successful in the olub’ s history. The membership had increased by fifty, and indications were that the game would become still more popular. The links and greens had been improved, and the greens had been top-dressed. It was intended to improve the approaches to Nos. 5 and 8 holes, and it was hoped to render No. 6 playable. This would give two long holes. The club’s best thanks were due to the committee and, especially the secretary, Mr G. G- Newell, who would not be satisfied till Stratford had the Rest greens in Taranaki. The club was also indebted to the ladies for supplying 'afternoon tea. The cess of the ball was also mainly due to the effort s of the ladies. Of the profit of £2B 5s from the baity the sum of £25 would he utilised for improvements to the course. The ladies were to be congratulated on bringing the Taplin Cup to Stratford for the first time. Of the inter-club matches played by the men, four had been won, three lost vuul two drawn. The standard of ,-play in the club had advanced, indicating keen and close play in the club competitions qext year. Congratulations to Mr Anderson upon having won the club championship for the third time were extended by Mr E. S. Rutherford, who presented to the president the championship cup, at the same time remarking that Mr Anderson was one of the most improved players A; Taranaki and one who would put Stratford on the map in the near future.
