MOTOR SHIP GETS OUT OF CONTROL WHEN TURNING INTO RIVER
BRASHES IHTO WHARF AND SINKS KETCH TWO OTHER KETCHES BADLY DAMAGED. BIG PILES SNAPPED OFF. (Received 9.45 a.m.) , ADELAIDE, This Day. The motor ship Wanunda when turning into the Port River apparently got out of cclntroi, , ..snapped the hawser connected to , the tug, and crashed stern first into |he Birkenhead Wharf. An auxiliary ketch w'a s crushed to matchwood and sank immediately while a huge gap was madte in the wharf. Piles two feet in diameter were snapped off and two other ketches were badly damaged. The owners managed to scramble to safety. The damage to the wharf is estimated at £3OOO and to the ketches £2OOO. The Wanunda’s stern was badly dented.— Australian Press Assn.
