POULTRY FARMERS’ VIEWS WELLINGTON, Oct. 2. Further evidence was heard by the Special Committee of the House of Representatives considering the question of a sliding scale of wheat duties Mr R \V. Hawke, United Member, for Kaiapoi, speaking as a poultry farmer aud a grower of wheat, said he attended a conference of poultry keepers' at Dunedin and the general opinion which was expressed there was that New Zealand should be scitdopendent so far as the growing of wheat was concerned. At no tune W as a resolution carried which aimed at putting the New Zealand grower out of action. Although poultry 1 armors were naturally anxious to get their food supplies at as cheap a Tate as possible, he disputed the assertion that the South Island poultry farnrn had an advantage over the North Island farmer. , The committee, at this stag , jourued untilAxex^Tuesday^
