To the Alaskan huskies of the Eyr'd Antarctic Expedition belongs the honour of heing the first dogs to draw a aledge over a New Zealand icefield. Recently twenty-five of these doge were taken to the Hermitage, Mount Cook, and a splendid double page of photographs in this week'g issue of the "New Zealand Free Lance" depicts the teams hauling sledges loaded with material for the new hut at Malte Brun over the snow and ice. A page is devoted to the first pictures of the landside across th e Mokihinui Valley which resulted in the recent flooding of Seddonville and St. Helens. Many other subjects are brightly dealt with.
