Mrs. L. B. Wilson left this morning for Wellington.

Mr T. Kirkwood is at present 1 an inmate of the Stratford Hospital. .

Constable H. Shields has received official information that he has been appointed bailiff.

Dr. W. P. 'Gordon left this morning on a tour of the United States and Canada.

Crs. T. R. Anderson and J. T. Belcher were this morning appointed t'c represent the Stratford County Council on the East Committee of the Egmont National Park Board.

The retirement is announced of Mr James F. Mackley, locomotive engineer for the North Island runways, who will leave the service at the end ojf this month. Mr Mackley will join on o of the large oil concerns and will continue to reside in Auckland.

The death has occurred at Christ, church, of Colonel Roehfort Snow, who was for many years engaged in the Customs offices at Lyttelton and in Christchurch, and who was a^so J tl ' prominent volunte'ersmian, serving in the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, which, at one time, he commanded. Colonel Snow was bom in 1851, in the town of TUan.dford, Dorset, England! His father, a hanker hy profession, was mined in, the American cotton failure at the end of the fifties. and in 1860 sailed from Bristol for Now Zealand with his wife and four children in the shin Lord Bur. leit’h. They landed at Auckland shortly before) the mithrdnk of the Maori wars in the Waikato, in which Mr Snow served as a mlnuteer. Later he joined the Civil Service as head of the Audit Department, retiring about 1870.
