TWO MEN KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR
Oi\E DIES IN HOSPITAL. OTHER BADLY HURT. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A motor car driven by a woman, knocked down two men in Manchester Street this everting. One of the men died in hospital ten minutes latter. • The other man has very grave head injuries necessitating an immediate operation. The identity of the men is not known. Letters on the dead man were addressed t'o Stephen James Johnston, /of Te Kopuru, Dargaville. The other man was semi-conscious when picked up. When asked his name he said “Balsgrove,” or a similar name, and Quickly lapsed info unconsciousness. The 'two men were crossing Manfchester Street when a closed car approached from the south and turned into Belfast Street,, where the two men were struck. The car ran along the footpath for some distance and collided with ariother car parked near the footpath. The’ woman driver of the car was taken to a nearby hotel in a state of nervous collapse.
