SCHOOL PICNIC

FUNCTION at OPUNAKE. SUCCESSFUL DAY. The annual school picnic which was held at Opunake yesterday was a great success. The weather though not perfect, was good? and thong i the sky was overcast the day was a warm one. The trains weie well packed and many people could only find standing room in the first one. The sea proved tho greatest attraction of the day and the big breakers were enjoyed by all, and the surf hoards were soon all taken up by enthusiastic bathers who wished to try this now snort. Tho lake ( was also patronised though not many people could he seen fishing and no notable catches were reported. During the afternoon tho Opunake Life Saving Club gave an exhibition of fife saving, and during the day these men were on readiness in case of ajccidenfjs, though luckily their services! were /not reunited. The dancing in the pavilion took on well a ,nd the room was soon full with a happy throng of people. The bowlers and tennis players also enjoyed themselves thoroughly and many good games were plaved. At the dinner in tlie Kiosk a number of Stratford’s heading citizens iwore the guests of Opunake people a nd Mr. Brennan, chairman of the Town Board extended a hearty welcome to the picnickers and hoped they would all eniov themselves thoroughly. Mr. Hickov on behalf of the Seaside Societv al«m welcomed the visitors and said ho hoped they would again come to Onunake next year.

Mr. Ferguson on behalf of the Stratford School Committee suitably replied and thanked the Opunake People for the way in which they had provided for the pleasure of the picHis "Worship tjhe Mayor, Mr. J. W. McMillan, also, thanked iho Opunake people and expressed the hope that they would he able to return the pleasure on some future occasion. The Stratford Band which attended the picnic was set up outside the pavilion and during the afternoon rendered good items.
