OBITUARY

CAPTAIN WALTER MANNING.

The heath occurred yesterday of Captain Walter Manning, one of the best' known masters in th© employ of Abe Union S.S. Company. He retired in 1918 after 36 years’ service as a master mariner, 33 years of which were in the WellingtonLyttelton ferry service. Deceased was born in London, and was apprenticed to engineering, but took to the sea life, and came to New Zealand in 1873, joining the Union Company in 1880. He commanded the Maori fr*om 1907 till his retirement. Capthin Manning was 75 years old.
