The Norwegian steamer Finnanger, carrying thirteen thousand tons of Soviet oil from Batoum, grounded at Fulta Point' in the Hooghley River. Idle vessel took an alarming list, and to save the ship and cargo the captain jettisoned three thousand tom. of oil, valued at £40,000. Villagers flocked to the riverside to collect the oil.
