COUNTY WORKS

ENGINEERS REPORT. The following report hy the Engineer (Mr J. W- Spence) was presented at Saturday’s meeting of the County Council: — North Riding. — During the post month the bitumen edges on the Mountain Road have been made up where necessary with fine broken metal and banked up with clay. Several portions of the US.' shiny Road have also been clay hanked on the edges of the metal. A start has been made with the. widening of the worst corners on: the Ackinml and Croydon Roads.

South R'iding.—Bitumen patching has been done on the Mountain and Finnerty Roads. Metal patching on the Cliniie Road lias been dune- The grader has been run over the sides of this and the following roads Victoria, Warwick, Nash, Hills, Sole, Finnerty, Cheal. part Oru, clay portions of Wingrovc and Skinner, also Furlong Street.

East Riding (Toko and Douglas).— J AVatertalling and metal patching have been done on Toko, Ahuioa (East) and Standish Roads. Further, stripping has'been carried out oil the Wawiri Road sliolltpck pit. Several corners on the -Wawiri Road have ( been out back, the spoil being used in widening a filling which has had the effect of giving much greater formation surface and has considerably opened uv> the road view. The culverts, inlets and outlets of same have been cleaned out. The Watertables have been attended to. Tu places the formation has been widened on the Ohura and Ohura-Manpa-ehn Roads- General surface work las been carried out- on the Douglas ißcntlv and Gordon Roads. East Riding (Huiroa).— Metal .patching and shingle blinding has been done on the Mnkuri Road, fifty yards of pit shingle being obtained from Mr Stanford’s pit. In both cases the watertnblcs have been cleaned out. A portion of a slip on the Mohakau Road has been cleared away to give traffic room. The balance of the material will be used in building up the road surface when weather conditions permit. West Riding—The gradci has been run over the aides of- the following roads— Hastings, Finnerty, Hon. , Poto, Opunnke No. 1„ Cliniie, Card-.!!. Waingongoro, Rustic, Brecon, a.u. Brooks Roads. Metal patching has been done on the Opunakc No. 2, Rowan, Palmer North, Brecon Brooks Cardiff, Waingongoro and Hastings Hoads. One earthenware pips on the Waingongoro and Duee on the Opunakc No. 1 have- been replaced with, concrete pipes Hie bitumen surface of the Opunako) Roao between the borough bonmhiiy am Cardiff has been patched and the jo - ken edges made up, Coldpa-tch a Co Iff x being used in tins work. Mangachu Riding—Set's of m» e * pipes have been placed in Hie warn J0.,*.,, Tututn.va and South Roads, afco one pi,«» in tho latter road MoUl patching, slip clearing am tabling have, where necessary, been made.
