REPRESENTATION

ON RACING CONFERENCE. POSITION OF TARANAKI.

Strong views were expressed, at laist night's meeting of tlie Stratford Racing Club on the matter of representation at the Racing Conference. Mr D. J. Malone said it was a. regrettable fact that the rppresenfo<fen of the province, had beon reduced. Some time ago the authorities bad seen fit to reduce the ; - enreiseji!.;,i iou

of the Metropolitan Club from two delegates to one, which r<;shiLod iu reducing the representation „., tlie

province. All Tarana!.i clubs stood high a s regards stakes and totaliisator turnover, indicating the support of th© public. It could not be held that raci:.g in Taranaki had gene back. In fact it was on the increase. But no united protest had been made against the reduced representation. Whether they wert* right or wrong it had not takera the Auckland Racing Club long to voice their grievance- So long as Taranaki was content to take the rebuffs handed out, so long would thoy be left in the lurch. As one of the country clubs the Stratford leading Club had! the right to nominate one person for an election of two delegates, to represent the Taranaki country clubs at the Conference. This year one of the delegates was out of the country and had appointed a deputy. The Stratford Club had received no notice of this, avnd he thought some' explanation was necessary. He had no desire to be unpleasant in the matter, but this was one of those things which, if they were, content to put up wit would always be dealt out to them. He knew very well the value of correct representation on any body—it meant a great deal. Mr A. W- Budge endorsed the remarks of the previous spuaker. On more than one occasion the Stratford Club had sent forward a remit, but the delegate had not even taken the trouble to secure a seconder. If no

seconder was forthcoming in a few seconds the matter was passed over. The year before last neither Taranaki delegates attended, and the deputies appointed left much to he desirC'Cu Mr Fredric said he tfould notUke it to he thought tnat the cluh w*» not being treated right. The delegates had merely taken the prescribed course in appointing deputies. He could not eee that the club had anything to complain of.
