N.Z. UNION. RANFURLY SHIELD. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Regarding challengers for the Ranfurly Shield it was stated at the meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand 1 Rugby Union last night that the union had to protect the holders, and were impartial as to who the holders were. The holders had the right to say which should he shield 1 matches and it was notional for the holders to tahe the shield with them when tonring /after they had held it for two years. If Wairarana won the shield from Canterbury the match between Wairarapa and South Canterbury would not he for the shield. The Bush. Union notified the cancellation of its northern tonr excepting the match with Wanganui. It would not now require the Rugby Union’s £25, hint hoped it would he utilised for the benefit of minor unions. The Horowhenna Union wrote accenting the North v. South Island minor unions match on August 4.
