THE grandstand for Victoria Park ia now assured the debentures issued by the Domain Board having all been taken up. This was an efficient method of raising the money requirea offering as it did an opportunty for all desirious of doing so, to assist a worthy object and at the saim, time receive a return for their outlay. The grandstand is a, very necessary provision for the Park and will assuredly result in increased attendances. In inviting suggestions as to the nature of the structure to be erected,' the Domain Board is seeking the views of tn"e citizens and giving the opportunity for ane one who has an, idea on the subject to send it in, so that it may be discussed and considered. This is something in the nature of a new departure, but it is h vdry Rood idea for apart from tne fact that it is liable to bnnsz forth some good suggestions, as well as many of the other kind, it induces people to take an interest in the matter which is always desirable in such cases. The issuing of debenture* for works in the town and district, which cannot reasonably be made a direct charge against the ratepaveral is a splendid idea, and is more likely to achieve success than an appeal for straight out donations. It would perhaps be an advantage to give consideration to this method in connection with other works.
