Trouble with several members 01 the stokehold crew of the Union Company's cargo steamer Kanmi. resulted in th e vessel being held up at Dunedin last night. It is stated that therevwa-s some hitch between certain members of the stokehold icrew and the ship's officers while the Kanna was at Bluff last week. The Kanna arrived at Dunedin on Sunday morning and was ready to sail last night for Napier and Gisftorne via ports, but it is stated that a number of the stokehold hands refused to accompany the ship because they had been "logged" for some alleged offence said to have been committed at Bluff. Last night all the members of the Raima's crew were given 24 hoursnotice of the termination of their services. The men concerned iti the dispute held several conferences with the Union Company officials to-day, but no settlement was reached, the men intimating that they had no desire to retain their berths. The company then decided to pay off Pfe stokehold section of the crew, and this was carried uTTT effect during the afternoon. An effort will be made to secure the necessary men vacancies to-morrow morning and if no further liitfih occurs the Kanna will bo despatched on Ijer northern trip tomorrow.
