An extraordinary tragedy was discovered at the Tientsin railway station on the arrival of a troop train from Shantung. Carriages were found heaped with dead and dying soldiers, including many White Rusians the former hody guard of the Shantung Governor Chang Chung Chang. They had been attacked by a Chinese armoured car .corps en route, who were angry because their salaries wer e unpaid. Even the commander was not spared. The drivers declared that they

were unaware a massacre was occurring. The train on arrival was virtually a coffin on wheels. There was only a handful of survivors. Attackers and attacked suffered equally.—Australian P.A.
