CATTLE CHAMPIONSHIPS

AUCKLAND’S STAND. Thd‘- following.- remit 1 was submitted to the 1 annual conference of A. and Pi Associations held (recently at Palmerston North: “No affiliated associations shall advertise or issue prizes 4 or awards of any descrip- • tion to be Norths 'lsland championships- fbr live stockbreeds or classes Without the consent of the conference;” The Auckland delegate- (Mr 'G. F*. Anderson) strongly- objected to the remit being carried. Auckland felt that if was justified in* awarding its own championship' and intended to still d 5 so, each' one to carry the sum' of £SO. The association was hopeful Of making the championships the most attractive iu New Zealand. He did. not’ think'the conference had the power' to veto Auckland’s actions, and it'had originally been understood that its domestic affairs were to he strictly left alone. The conference' could not possibly have any local knowledge of the functions held in Auckland. In so far

as the c(inference had- advisory powers, Auckland would support it, but when the conference attempted to dictate to the affiliated associations, then Auckland would not agree. The chairman (stated that if eve'fy' assbciation awarded North Island' Championships, the position' would be 1 absolutely ridiculous. The matter was orte' which had to be fixed by the conference. Mr Anderson: If you bind the hands of Auckland, then you push us out of the affiliated associations. The remit was then put to the. meeting and carried unanimously.
