A RACE TO ECSNBURGH

THRILLS PROMISED

An air challenge to the British long distance railways has been issued by Imperial Airways, Ltd., foreshadowing a new development in An-glo-Scottish travelling facilities. At the moment when the Flying Scotsman leaves King’s Cross Station, London, on the world’s longest non-stop run of 392 miles to Edinburgh, at 10 o’clock on Friday, a tri-ple-screw 21-seater de luxe air liner will take off from Croydon airport for the same destination, to test the possibilities of a regular air service. The aeroplane will take a longer route than the train, calling at King’s Lynn and Newcastle, but is expected to arrive at Edinburgh simultaneously with the express, at 6.1 S P--in.

A thrill of rivalry is promised when the train and the ’plane, according to schedule, race side by side, first when n(firing Newcastle, and later near Edinburgh. It will bo no hare and tortoise pace- According to the railway men the express hits up 7-1 miles an hour over long (sections, and averages about 50 m.p.h. for the whole distance.
