FROM "POST 1 ' SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. HUIROA. On Tuesday last Mrs. W. H. Bunning gave an "afternoon" in honour of her sister-in-law, Mrs. L. Bailey, of Wanganui. A most enjoyable time was spgnt, music; competitions, etc., making the afternoon fly all too quickly. Several pianoforte solos were executed by Miss BrViy, ajnd Mrs. Bailey sang .two songs, these being much appreciated. Miss Bray also played a. couple of pitmoforte duets with Mrs. "Wi B. Martin. A word guessing competition was won by Mrs.B. Maekay, who received a. dainty little china ornament as a prize. A pencil and pjiper game caused a great deal of fun and lhugfiter. Mrs. Running provided a delightful afternoon tea, which was done wull justice to. Those present were: Mrs. Bailey (Wanganui), Mrs. Bray, Miss Bray, Mrs. Goldup, Mrs. W. B. Martin, Mrs. A. Martin, Mrs. Jarvis, Mrs Wallace, Mrs. Stanford, Mrs. Maekay and Mrs. M'issey. Several ladies, who through illness wero unable to he present, sent apologies. The Bachelors' dance, which was arranged for Friday, has been postponed on account of another function taking place on that date. There is a good' deal of sickness in the district at present, "flu" being very prevalent, while two or three cases of mumps have also been reported. Mr. J. Reid, the victim of last week's motor accident, is reported to b# improving.

A social evening to honour Mr. and Mrs. T. Murray has been arranged, and will fliko place in the Schoolroom next Friday evening. There was a large gathering of prospective buyers! at the clearing sale held on Mr. J. B. Richard's Waiwiri Road property. Fairly good pi ices were maintained throughout the sale.

Mrs. L. BSiiley, of Dime Hill, Wanganui, who lias been on a visit to her sister-in-law, Mrs. W. H. Sunning, returned to her home by the mail train last Wednesday morndng.
