PROGRAMME WANTED

FOR A. AND P. WORKS. TO KEEP PACE WITH PROGRESS At Saturday’s meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association the president (Mr J. W. Boon) said he desired to express appreciation and thanks to the general and executive committees and tb the chairman of sections for their loyal support during the plist year. The Association was fortunate in haying such, a good credit balance, and he thought a splendid show had been put on. Thanks were due to the ladies for tile good work they did 1 . The -pi-ofits on the section... nm by the ladies (the sweets stall and the luncheon room) wore enual to the Association’s total profit for the year. He also desired to express appreciation of the excellent work of the secretary (Mr A. J. Barr). Mr Barr whs a great support for the president, and kept him free from all worries arising in the office. VOLUNTARY LABOUR. Mr H. Trimble moved a vote of thanks to the President, the committees, tlie ladies and the secretary. He said he desired to emphasise a question he had spoken about previously. He thought the Association had no right to be depending as it did' on voluntary work in the luncheon rooms. The profit of the Association! seemed to depend on a large part of the work of the Show being clone for nothing. It seemed to be an imposition on the ladies, who did the work. While fully appreciating the work done by the ladies, he did noli think it wa, s the right wUy to run tlie Association. In his opinion, also, far too many people enjoyed 1 free luncheons at the show. WORKS. POLICY NEEDED.

Mr R. Masters, added his praise of the work of tho president, se.cretary .and other officers. They deserved the greatest possible credit for tho manner in which the affairs of tlio Association had been run during the past few years. As to voluntary work, he> thought all members realised that it wtas absolutely impossible to run an A. and I*. Association without it, and ho was sure Mr Trimblo must agree that special thanks were duo to tire _ ladies for their line work and (admit that they were largely responsible for the good financial position ot the Association. He would like to make a suggestion. Ho thought the time had come for the Association to lay down a policy regarding permanent buildings. I m present executive should examine the whole portion and draw up a programme which could be carried out by succeeding executives. Personam, fie thought the Association was destined to become a large one It Han <rot over its financial difficulties \vas well established- and ho thought the time had arrived when the Association should get down to tho problem of laying down a policy of work, which could bo done as funds peinutU Mr Trimble’s motion of thanks was duly curried.
