CLOSING OF SEASON

AVON CROQUET CLUB. -' ~f The iAvou Croquet Club held its « official closing function at the Club lawns yesterday afternoon. Although th© weather was very dutf, there was a good attendance p£ visitors and members. After afternoon tea the President, Mrs R. Masters, congratulated the winners of the MoUDowi© Cup competition, held at Jttawera (Mesdameg Gibberd > Jenkins, Woods and Ball), also the winners of the B grade handicap doubles at the South Taranaki Croquet Tournament (Mes- , dames Woods and Ball, and the runners up, Mesdames JKnight and Jenkins). The following club trophies were then presented:— Champiota, ,Mrs W. Hardy Jones, ishield and trophy; runner-up Mrs Moon, trophy. A grade handicap cup, Mrs Alger cup aud shield. B grade handicap cup, Mr£;.Crouton, cup and trophy; runner-up, Mrs Woods, trophy. .; iC grade, Mrs Bellringer, trophy. On behalf- of the Club, Mrs.-Mast-ers spoke of the work done by Mrs Ball as secretary, and as a mark of appreciation presented her with a beautiful set of ohrystat Mrs Moore, vice-president, then completely surprised Mrs Masters by presenting her with a chrystal vase. During the afternoon two competitions were held, the winners foe^., ing: Golf croquet, Mrs Bell croquet, Mrs Coldwell.
