NEWS FROM THE COUNTRY

FROM “POST” SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. I see by Wednesday’s taper that Mr Moss intends to purchase a halftone section in the country so that i'he may become a ratepayer under the :Power Board. Mr Moss, lam sure, could not go wrong i n purchasing •the land in the Cardiff district, especially as the local tenni s club is in sore need of a similar area of land. I The annual Sunday school picnic '*was held at the river on Tuesday. A large number of mothers and Children who were present enjoyed themselves to the utmost. The ratepayers' meeting in connection with the Power , Board affairs was well attended by ratepayers of this district. Not a few were disappointed at the way the chairman of th© Board, Mr Carman, was treated. When Mr Carman was ask%d to address the meeting he should have been allowed to do so. How■ever, there seems little reason why, because a few made the mistake of crying down the chairman of the Board, the remainder should forget 'why the meeting wa s called. Additional tennis results are; Men’s singles. Pat O’Sullivan 6 v, D. Cameron 4; D. Cameron 6 v. R. Huckstep 1; IC. L. Hancock 8 v, A. 1 Hancock 6; W. Myers C v. P. Horn jL; T. Boyle 6 v. R. Huckstep, 1 / D. Cameron C v. T. Boyle 4. Ladies’ singles, Miss Willcox G v. Miss Wisnewski 4; Mrs D. Cameron 6 v. Miss A. Horn 1. Mr and Mrs Jreenwell have returned from a holiday spent at New Plymouth.
